Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the school cafeteria! We are excited to partner with your family for a healthy, successful 2026–2027 school year. Our mission is to serve nutritious, well-balanced meals that fuel student achievement. We highly value feedback, so please encourage your children to share their menu ideas with our team.

Below is important information regarding meal pricing, account balances, and benefit applications for the upcoming year.

2026-2027 Prices

We are pleased to announce that Somers CSD students will continue to be able to receive 1 complete* breakfast and 1 complete* lunch per day at NO CHARGE, regardless of income for the 2026-2027 school year.

Districtwide Breakfast: Paid $0, Reduced/Free: $0
Districtwide Lunch: Paid $0, Reduced/Free: $0

This universal free meals program is funded by New York state's 2026 budget. It aims to combat food insecurity, improve student health and academic performance, and ease the financial burden on families.

Any additional meal or meal components (including snacks, drinks, incomplete meals, second entrees and ice cream) are charged at a la carte prices and are not included in the program and will require payment at the time of purchase.

*A complete meal must include a fruit, juice or vegetable.

Please review your student's cafeteria account before the first day of school to ensure a smooth start: Kindly cover any outstanding balance from previous years is paid in full, add funds to their account now and replenish them throughout the year.

Household Income Applications

All children in the school district will receive meals at no charge regardless of household income or completion of this household income form. This form is to determine eligibility for additional State and federal program benefits that your child(ren) may qualify for, including Summer Electronics Benefit Program (EBT). Please complete only one form for your household and return it to the school or message Jill Weisman through the contact form.

Applications are available in each school's main office and can be found in the Household Income Form section below. Please note that applications can be processed at any point during the school year, so if your financial situation changes, please submit an application immediately.

Payment and Meal Accounts

Payments to student accounts can be made with cash or a check at any register or online.

Please make checks payable to Somers school lunch fund and include your child’s name in the memo section.

If you prefer to pay online, please visit myschoolbucks.com to access your students' My School Bucks account. On this site you can set up automatic payment options* (there is a fee for this service), check balances, track purchases, receive low balance alerts and more. *Please note that once your students balance goes negative the auto pay feature is disabled and must be reset when the account is brought positive.

We strongly recommend that you add funds to your student’s account before the start of the school year.

Reminders

We do not allow a la carte items to be charged negative to a student’s account.
A la carte items include:
snacks, beverages, extra items, incomplete meals and/or double meals.

Charging Policy

Somers school district has a NO CHARGE policy for ala carte items. Ala carte items include snacks, beverages (including water), ice cream, incomplete meals (missing a fruit or vegetable component) and second entrees.

Please be aware that if a student comes through the line with a “double lunch”, the first meal will be no charge and the ala carte second entree will be charged at full price.

Parents/Guardians are required to cover the negative balances incurred by their child/children. Those with a negative balance will not be stigmatized or publicly identified. Emails will be sent home weekly for those with a negative balance as a reminder to please pay your student’s debt.

What Makes a Meal?

Our school meals meet federal nutrition standards to ensure that both breakfast and lunch offerings are healthy, well-balanced and provide students with the nutrition they need to succeed at school.

Our meals are specially formulated to be lower in fat, sodium, sugar and higher in fiber than what you find in local restaurants in order to comply with federal school meal regulations. We offer a wide variety of meal options, healthy whole grains, a variety of fresh fruit and vegetable options and low fat milk.

In order for a meal to be considered complete or “reimbursable,” it must meet certain criteria. Students MUST choose at least 3 items and one MUST be a fruit, juice or vegetable.

All foods and beverages sold or served in school meet state and federal requirements, which are based on USDA guidelines and federal requirements.

Emails will be sent home weekly for those with a negative balance as a reminder to please pay your student’s debt.

As students advance grade to grade with new classes and different teachers, the dedicated lunch ladies and men in the school cafeteria are often one of the few constants throughout their academic journey. Throughout the school year, these heroes of the cafeteria are dedicated to making mealtimes a bright spot in a student’s day, ensuring the Somers students are served nourishing meals with a smile.
