Our School

Welcome to Somers Intermediate School, a place where we believe every student can be successful.  SIS has been part of the Somers community since 1972.  Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 spend their 3 intermediate years of education here and they are years of great growth and developing independence.

We are excited to provide a quality learning environment and a safe and nurturing school that's designed to meet the needs of all of our students.  Students receive a rigorous education that addresses the New York State Standards, and also considers Music, Art, Physical Education, Library Media Literacy and Research as essential parts of the curriculum.  Our staff collaborates frequently to ensure learning for all students, so they can reach their fullest potential –academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and as global citizens.

Our school believes in a strong partnership between teachers and parents. This is essential for our students to be successful. There are several opportunities throughout the year where parents can learn about their child’s progress and ways they can support student learning at home. We are so very grateful for the support.

Somers Intermediate School embraces the belief in educating the whole child. Children continue to develop their social, emotional, physical, and academic skills during these formative years. We work to help students consider the impact of their actions on their local and global communities. We believe that children thrive in a safe learning community where they are fully engaged and are held accountable for their respectful and honest interactions with others.
